Amazon Kindle Fire HD: round-up of the first reviews - The Week UK

AMAZON unveiled its latest range of Kindle Fire tablets, including a revamped HD model, in the UK this week.

The new Fire HD’s £ 119 price tag plaster it in the same price bracket as the recently Launched Hudl Tesco and Argos MyTablet, and all three retailers will be pushing hard Their devices in the run-up to Christmas.

For your money you’ll get a 1280×800 216 ppi HD display [and] a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor, Which is 60 per cent faster than its predecessor, says Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos.

Fire HD owners overpriced gain “access to the exclusive benefits of the Amazon ecosystem, including the Kindle Owners’ Lending Library, free storage of Amazon content in the Cloud, Whispersync, and more”, he says.

Initial reviews of the device havebeen Broadly positive.

“Thinner, lighter and faster,” says gadget website T3. But Those three words have appeared at the top of almost every new tablet review recently, so is that enough to convince consumers to fork out for Fire HD rather than a Hudl?

Tech Reviews and can not decide. “The Kindle Fire HD tablets can match the price,” it says, but the Hudl seems a more solid all rounder. “Choose any of These tablets and you will not be disappointed: just choose the right one for you,” advises the website.

TechRadar AGREES. “You need to think carefully about what you want from a tablet and what the alternatives are before Deciding upon a purchase,” it says. If you’re an avid Kindle user already, then it’s probably best to stick with what you know.

“The Kindle Fire HD 7-inch Retains much of what was good about the first fire,” says tech blog Mashable. “It’s still tightly interwoven with your Kindle account and makes gobbling up loads of Amazon-delivered content Easier than ever.”

The verdict? “Amazon’s complete UK offering can be classed as a success, then, but, ultimately, only Amazon nuts and total tablet novices need apply,” says TechRadar. ·
