Fenton thief Shaun Spode Sold His mum's X Box and games to fund his drink and drug habit

THIEF Shaun Spode stole from his mum while she was on holiday – before going on an all-day drink and drug binge.

The 26-year-old took an XBox, Kindle Fire and two games from his mother’s Meir home before selling them on for just £ 240.

Victim Jane Duncan had allowed her son to stay at the address and discovered the items missing When She Returned.

Magistrates at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard how Spode, of King Street, Fenton, sold the goods before blowing the cash to feed his addictions in one day.

Prosecutor Steve Knowles said: “The defendant’s mother, Jane Duncan, Confirmed going on holiday on July 13, leaving her three sons at home.

” She returned in the early hours of July 19 and She Discovered That the XBox, two games and a Kindle Fire was missing.

“She Suspected Shaun had taken the items while he had been at the address and she believed he wouldhave to seat them with drink and drugs.

“One of Ms. Duncan’s other son Confirmed the items had been taken and That he Suspected it was overpriced the defendant.

” Her daughter later Confirmed That Shaun actually admitted stealing the items.

“The defendant said he had taken the Kindle and the games to an exchange place in Longton and had sold them for £ 60 and £ 10 respectively. He saidthat he took the XBox to Cash Converters and sold it for £ 170. “

Spode – who was subject to a 12-month conditional discharge for theft at the time of the offense – admitted three counts of Theft.

Simon Leech, defending, said: “Mr. Spode went from being a rowdy young male to somebody who started to steal from a shop.

” That change is quite simply down to the loss of his job. He was working in a warehouse in Cheadle for three years, but due to the downturn in business, he found himself being made redundant.

“It was That redundancy That caused him to Increase his alcohol consumption and the amount of cannabis he was Consuming.

“People who have drug and drink problems need to Obtain the funds and the Easiest People to Obtain cash from are family and friends.

“He was left in the house for a week, he had run out of cash and he took the items to a pawnbrokers.

” He now finds himself to be completely alienated by his friends and family Following this incident. “

Magistrates handed Spode a 12-month community order, with supervision and ordered him to complete 120 hours of unpaid work.

The defendant must overpriced pay £ 145 in court costs.
